Most of us desire positive change and development but many of us struggle to keep the momentum going because we have our mind and outside influences to contend with. One thing we can all agree with is that change and development are far from easy and that it requires an ongoing effort.
Feeling stuck is demotivating and repetitive and it heavily affects our mood, thought patterns and our overall well-being. This invisible obstacle needs to be looked at as a wake-up call. This helps us take on the necessary steps towards changing things for ourselves.
I have found the following tips helpful:
- Establishing your goals
- Write in detail why you wish to change
- Write a plan
- Prepare yourself mentally
- Decide to make the commitment to yourself when you are ready
- Begin your self-work journey
Identifying these key areas will help support you on your journey and help you develop some much-needed self-discipline that will attract forth new opportunities and accomplishments.
Breakthroughs happen when you are mentally in the right head space because you have to wrap your head around the fact that you have to work on yourself daily before you can harness the transformation you desire.
Motivation
Motivation is very important because there will be times when you will feel that you need an extra push to help you continue. Motivation also helps to replenish your confidence and attitude which in turn gives you the extra support you need to reboot you mentally.
You can seek motivation from the following places and resources:
- Friends
- Family
- Partner
- Mentors
- Work colleagues
- Books
- YouTube
- Podcasts
- A change of scenery
- Counselor
- A professional
I personally seek motivation from all of the above because different people help you in different ways. You should never be too proud to seek motivation as it serves to help you in your productivity and even helps to re-energise you when you feel low.
Support System
I am an advocate for creating your own support system. Having people you feel comfortable expressing sensitive feelings and emotions to is much needed.
Self-care
I can not stress how important self-care is! When you neglect yourself you create internal and external issues that progressively get worse because you are not addressing the root problem.
Self-care helps you with the following:
- Maintaining a healthy balanced life
- You nurture your happiness
- You're mindful of your mind, body and soul
Limitation
There are countless people that have proven to do the unthinkable so what is stopping you?. I know you've told yourself about the dozen reasons as to why it's not going to work but you can challenge those reasons with telling yourself why it can work. There is no race; take one step at a time and work at it and you will be able to make your dreams become a reality.
Challenges
We often look at challenges in a negative way but depending on your perspective and outlook it can easily be looked at in a positive way. Challenges will teach you about different areas of yourself such as your strengths and your weaknesses which will ultimately help you work on key areas.
Throughout yourself development you may come across the following possible scenarios :
- You may not feel like you are progressing at the speed you had imagined.
- It may even seem like things are getting worse in the midst of your self-work.
- You may feel isolated
- You may feel demotivated
Self-work can be difficult but it is important to keep on going because you will eventually see that things do get easier and the journey is all worth it.
