Morning Starts

Morning starts are never easy. I believe that a good morning routine can help everyone start the day on a positive note. This blog will concentrate on implementing effective healthy habits and practices in the mornings.

Finding Appreciation

It is important to value what we have. This reduces the unhealthy thoughts that make us believe we need more in order to be happy. Each day gifts us with a fresh start and we have the chance to appreciate everything we are fortunate to have.

Gratitude Diary

Writing down what you are thankful for is a great way to start your day in a more positive way. Even if you are not feeling your best, you still have plenty to be grateful for.  Examples of this could be as simple as being appreciative for the ability to eat, your pet’s unconditional love, to having water etc.

Ultimately, gratitude journaling helps us to appreciate life, by encouraging us to focus our attention on the positive things that impact our lives.

Defusing Essential Oils

Some aromatherapy oils are particularly beneficial in the morning as they are stimulating, uplifting and refreshing. I recommend the following:
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemongrass
  • Geranium
These oils are a nice addition to a morning routine. I burn some oils while I get ready for the day. You may choose to burn some calming oils but I prefer burning citrusy or stimulating oils to help boost and uplift my spirits.

Practice Yoga

Practicing yoga is a nice way to start your day. The following are some areas where you stand to benefit:
  •  Improves mindfulness
  •  Encourages us to be  in the moment
  •  Improves your mental and physical well-being
  •  Encourages flexibility

Yoga has a variety of routines that focus on different areas. I personally would like to improve my upper body strength so I mainly focus with routines that help me in that area. One of my favourite books on the topic is Yoga For Life is by Coleen Saidman Yee. She offers advice, breaks down poses clearly and explains how you can use yoga practices to work through different situations.

Mediation

Meditation is one of the most powerful practices as it really helps us to push for transformation.  The following are areas we can benefit the most from.
  • Mindfulness
  • Calms the busy thoughts
  • Helps us to reduce stress

Healthy breakfast

Having breakfast in the morning helps to fuel our mind and body with energy. Most of us find it hard to fit in a healthy breakfast first thing in the morning, however, it can be done with ease.

You can prepare your breakfast the night before so that you can quickly make your breakfast in the morning or take with you straight to work.

Additionally, having breakfast in the morning can also help us to avoid over eating and snacking unnecessarily during the day.

washing your face

Washing your face with cold water is refreshing and has some beauty benefits too.

Here are some examples:
  • Washing your face in the morning helps to calm the early morning puffy face that we can sometimes have
  • It is an additional way to help maintain younger looking skin as it is known for helping to slow down the aging skin.
  • Cold water also helps to tighten and close pores which improve the appearance and texture of the skin.
I would recommend that you first wash your face with warm water then rinse your face with cold water. It helps spring you back to life when you're still half asleep.

Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy has been practised for thousands of years and has continued to serve us in a variety of ways. The oils are used in medicines, cosmetics, recipes, rituals and spas frequently for their aroma, medicinal, ceremonial and therapeutic benefits. Most recently, essential oils have been used in hospitals as clinical complimentary treatments in patient care. This is a positive sign that shows how marrying modern medicines and holistic services together can greatly help with improving well being.  Emotions Our emotions vary and the feelings we experience can unsettle us at times. Essential oils are useful as we can implement them daily to help us with our emotions. There are oils that help to relax, de-stress, boost mood, and stimulate our senses. One of my go-to oils is Frankincense which serves to help with a number of areas. It is an oil that has the potential to balance hormones and can be used to relieve depression and anxiety symptoms.  Body You

The Gift of Nature

Nature never ceases to amaze me. It offers us a wealth of information; recipes, health benefits, beauty aids etc. There is plenty to learn and appreciate about the gifts of nature. Symbolic Ties  We can personalise seasonal patterns and behaviours by reflecting upon natures symbolic meanings to find comfort from our own perspectives. For example, when you face difficulty it may seem unbearable, but once you take a moment to look outside of yourself, nature proves that things can get better with time and rebirth is often essential. I believe that the same way nature adapts against the odds, we too can do the same. It also amazes me, how cultures relate to nature symbolically. With Feng Shui, for instance, flowers are thought to hold energy and protect. In Florology, however, flowers express messages between people. The Gift Of Aromatherapy  The oils are extracted through different methods to produce precious oils. These gifts are called essential oils

Treat Yourself To Some Time Alone

When I think about coziness, I think about being warm and comfortable. I picture myself centering into tranquility in the comfort of my home. I usually try and make Sunday my lazy day where I let go of any sense of guilt towards not being productive.  To me, it is simply my day to relax, slow down and refuel my energy. Don't get me wrong, I still potter around doing some light tidying or cooking, but it is all done with minimal stress. Setting The Ambience Creating a nice mood helps you feel a sense of harmony within your living environment and allows you to truly feel relaxed and be at ease at home. It is supposed to be your safe zone and the ultimate place to retreat from the outside world. This means you should be conscious about looking after your home so that you can work towards making your space as inviting and comfortable for yourself as possible. Time for You We often have multiple interactions with people daily, whether it is in person, on the phone,
